Ungváry Krisztián1969-ben született Budapesten. Középiskolai tanulmányait a II: Rákóczi Ferenc gimnáziumban végezte. 

1993-ban és 1996-ban a DAAD, 2000-ben a Hertie-Alapítvány ösztöndíjasa volt Freiburgban és Berlinben. A PhD képzést kiváló eredménnyel teljesítette, Budapest 1944-45-ös ostromát feldolgozó doktori disszertációja eddig 8 magyar, 4 német, 2 angol és 2 amerikai, valamint kínai és román illetve orosz kiadása jelent meg, de Oroszországban más szerző neve alatt is kiadták. 

2001–2011 között az 1956-os Forradalom Dokumentációs és Kutatóintézetének munkatársa. Megbízott óraadóként három szemesztert tanított a Színművészeti Főiskola doktori képzésében, valamint egy szemesztert az ELTE BTK szociológia tanszék doktori iskolájában. 2023 szeptembere óta a Miskolci Egyetem kutatóprofesszora. 

Érdeklődési területe elsősorban a XX. század politikai és hadtörténete. Régóta foglalkozik egyenruha-történettel, fotótörténettel és falerisztikával is. 

Jelenlegi kutatásai egyaránt érintik az első és második világháború hadtörténetét, a XX. század politikatörténetét, a szélsőjobb-kutatást valamint az állambiztonság kutatását. 

Németül felsőfokon, angolul alapfokon beszél.  

Krisztián Ungváry was born in Budapest in 1969. He completed his secondary education at the II: Rákóczi Ferenc Gymnasium. 

He was a DAAD scholarship holder in Freiburg and Berlin in 1993 and 1996, and a Hertie Foundation scholarship holder in 2000. He completed his PhD with excellent results, and his doctoral dissertation on the siege of Budapest in 1944-45 has been published in eight Hungarian, four German, two English, and two American editions, as well as in Chinese, Romanian, and Russian, although in Russia it was published under the name of another author. 

From 2001 to 2011, he worked at the 1956 Revolution Documentation and Research Institute. He taught three semesters as a lecturer in the doctoral program at the Academy of Performing Arts and one semester at the doctoral school of the Department of Sociology at ELTE BTK. Since September 2023, he has been a research professor at the University of Miskolc. 

His main areas of interest are 20th-century political and military history. He has long been involved in the history of uniforms, photography, and faleristics. 

His current research covers the military history of the First and Second World Wars, 20th-century political history, research on the far right, and research on state security. 

He speaks German at an advanced level and English at a basic level.
